Custom Exhaust for the 1.6T

Folks,

Going to visit Hot Rod Scott Custom Exhaust in Toronto. Quality work, fair price, instead of buying an Afe Power or SXTH Engineering product at over $1000 Canadian once conversion and tax, duties are applied.

Custom built axle back or cat back with custom tips, burnt blue or black or stainless, many choices....for just over $450 Canadian (****, my american friends can come and get it done for even less in USD after conversion!!!) and the work is guaranteed for life of the car.

Will post info and work before and after in the next two weeks.

Cheers!

This is what I have had done on mine. Dual 2.5" with SS resonators on each side. Using the stock tips.

It does sound good. With a nice note on the outside, without being to loud.
But there is a bit of drone on the inside, under 3000 rpm. Which can become quite tiresome after awhile. No drone while cruising though.

I have sort of fixed it up by blocking one side with some steel wool. Now there is no drone at all inside. But still sounds the same on the outside.
I think it's because the pipe has stayed 2.5". There is not enough exhaust gas volume going through both the resonators.
And with that slow down in exhaust gas. Is creating the drone. So I'm going to be removing one of the resonators & replacing it with a straight pipe with a electronic valve.

Then when I want it quite, the exhaust gas will go through the resonator. When I want a bit more noise, it can go through the straight pipe..
I think completely removing both resonators & just having straight dual pipes, also induces the drone..

Video of when I got the exhaust done.. You can also hear the intake as well..

Photos of what is on there now..

I know its a bit of a big move to make but anyone who gets a header-back system installed is a winner in my books. Hear how they can sound on older Honda's with similar displacement. Would love to hear it on one of these.

ok visited Hod Rod Scott. to replace the muffler alone is $700 to remove and replace with a performance one due to the original being so big.

that said, a resonator delete would not give the desired sound i wanted without a massive uptick in drone in the car...

Long story short, better to wait for the axle back from SXTH as it might be a better option.

He was wary to do anything but, i am patient.

That too bad it didn't work out. At $450, that would have been an excellent price. Do you figure a straight muffler delete would be too loud for what you are after?

I hope this thread gets some more posts. I currently have done the resonator delete and like the sound. I am also thinking about the axle-back but I have heard you could lose that unique sound we have with our N-Lines. I wonder if the muffler on the N-line is different than the straight GT?
That being said, I am thinking perhaps a custom setup much like the OP but I too worry about the drone. I do not want a raspy sound but I would like a little more growl from my current setup.
Back when I had the 2010 Gen Coupe, I had a Magnaflow Muffler Model 12265 along with a Megan mid-pipe installed and it sounded great. So I am thinking perhaps simply replacing the muffler with something lighter and a little more open would give me the sound I want without drone.

I'm also in Toronto and I was looking at heading into "https://noyzboyz.com/" for a catback or headerback(if they have a downpipe).

They have good reviews online(and have done many Elantra GT N-Lines).

I don't have a free weekend for the rest of the month though unfortunately

But I'll certainly share what quotes I get from them.
