2018 GT Sport - DCT shifting at 100kmh sport mode

Hi all,

I recently bought a 'used' 2018 GT Sport from the dealership with only 410km on it. With automatic DCT

I love the ride, but have some odd feelings about one or two things.


I have been switching between eco, normal and sport modes on the fly, and notice a significant difference between eco and sport rev rates.

In eco the gears rev between 2k and 3k rpm while sport sits between 3k and 4k on cruise spreads.


My question is, I find myself at 100 and 110km per hour and the DCT revs to 4k/5k rpm and doesn't seem to be up shifting from whatever gear it is in.


Maybe my issue is that I'm not speeding up much aster (being stuck on backroads and not having taken it on a legitimate highway with no traffic yet)

Does the DCT typically not shift up into the 5th until you go past that 110km/h threshold? Perhaps this is just the sport mode impact, as I don't think I'm getting a similar high rev /non shift in eco mode, tho I haven't tested enough having the car only 2 days so far.

My 2018 DCT readily and quickly upshifts through the gears. In sport mode it hangs in lower gears much longer. I found sport annoying for street driving so I very rarely use it. My car (I'm in the USA) has only Normal and Sport modes (no ECO mode).

Has anyone check with 2019 models to see if it was resolved? Often automakers address issues in future year models without announcing them.

There may be nothing to resolve. The sport mode is probably great on a track.

Make me think about my footwork on the pedal.



Do you guys just put pedal to the metal thru 5 gears or do you paddle shift at intervals while feathering the gas pedal, letting go when you want to shift momentarily etc with the DCT?

I drive the manual n-line so I can't say how this particular DCT responds but likely in sport mode your sitting in 5th gear and it's not kicking over to 6th(as 6th is really only used for fuel economy highway driving).

If you're driving the car 'sporty' you'd never want to be in this situation.

Best thing you could do is use your DCT!!! Shift it when you want the gears to change.

I don't use the paddles much. Haven't felt the need. I've never even considered easing up on the gas between shifts. Why bother? I'm sure they programmed the transmission to handle the shifts at full power just fine. They have to consider that most drivers will treat this transmission like a typical automatic.
