Front license plate

I live in Nor-Cal. The elantra gt personally looks so much better without the front plate. I've been contemplating taking it off for aesthetic reasons (as well as the grief caused by the annoying look of a gazillion bugs splattered on white).

Anyone here have a setup with no plates up front? Also, did you run into issues being stopped by police?

It's just giving them a reason to pull you over. I don't dare roll without a front plate in the Bay Area, much as I despise it. Have you considered relocating it to a tow-hook plate mount?

When I had my temporary plates I got pulled over for having the paper plate inside my windshield. For some dumb reason; they really don't like that, even though you're still technically displaying the plate.

That is definitely true...all the more reason to pull you over, right?....and then they will probably cite me for my very lightly done tints on the front driver & passenger windows!(moved from Maryland) California prohibits ANY tint on windshield and front windows. 😕

California's law is the front can have a MAXIMUM of 70% if the factory windows have a tint already. but 88% if not. The rear windows can be tinted as much as you'd like. I'd highly recommend CravenSpeed's front plate mount if you haven't already looked in to getting one. Makes the car look good, I actually think it looks better with a mount than without, but that's just me.

Thanks for the detailed info on the tint in CA and the front plate mount suggestion! I will definitely look into that.

I live in Texas, and they definitely have a front-plate requirement here. However, on day 1 when I got the car, I took my front plate and hardware off because it does look so much better. I've been driving 1.5 years, 23k miles with mine off, and haven't been pulled over yet. I'll probably get pulled over now that I've talked about it. I have all the hardware and plate in the rear with the spare.

I agree...it looks sooo much better with the front plate off. I thought about having the plate visible behind the windshield...but the dash area has vents and speakers that get in the way.

About 1 in 10 cars around here seem not to have front plates...wondering if it is worth the risk of a citation..
