This is purely down to an individual’s preference, but you’ll be hard pressed to find something as “fun, sporty, and budget-friendly” as the Elantra GT. At least those are the words Consumer Reports uses to describe Hyundai’s performance-oriented Elantra hatchback.

Sitting on the GT’s chassis is the same engine and transmission one would find in the Elantra sedan, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission to send all 161 ponies to the vehicle’s front wheels. Living up to it’s nameplate, the GT is more than happy to tackle corners at speed.

Of course it’s not perfect as most cars aren’t. The Elantra GT does have noticeable wind noise and its fuel economy rating of 28 mpg combined is no class leader. But what it does offer could help you overlook those flaws. Namely the roomy rear passenger seats, which when folded down could accommodate a bicycle with wheels and the 8-inch touch-screen infotainment system that’s Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatible. There’s even an optional power lumbar driver’s seat, not something you usually see with a budget model.

If that’s not enough, buyers can go for the 1.6-liter turbo powered Elantra GT Sport for almost $30,000. A bit pricy, but the trim does add on forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist.

LSD is better to have for those that appreciate grip and a firm vehicle that can go in and out of turns with less of an issue. in this segment that feature to me is vital.
