2020 Elantra GT N Line Manual - Reverse Lights/Camera not working

Like the title says, I have a 2020 Elantra GT N Line 6 Speed Manual. When putting the vehicle in reverse the camera will not come on. I then noticed that the reverse lights are not coming on either. It is as if the vehicle is not knowing that it is in reverse.

Of course the vehicle actually does reverse. There are no indicators or on the cluster or trouble codes from the vehicle. This makes me think this is a physical problem, likely an issue with something as simple as a position sensor/switch.

Does anyone have any incite on this matter? I've already checked the fuse that controls the backup lights and it's fine.

Also this did start out as an intermittant problem many months ago, earlier in the summer of 2022. I would put it in reverse and would get no camera, but shift out of revers and back and the camera would come on. Then everything returned to normal for many months. Then trouble once or twice, then back to normal and now it is at it's current state. Worked normally one day and the next day nothing and it hasn't worked for a week straight.

Anyone know where the reverse position sensor/switch would be located?

Wow...what an active and vibrant community. Don't all responde at once! :)

Easy there. These are old school forums, not facebook. Replies aren’t immediate.

Does the ‘R’ gear indicator show up on your gauge cluster multi function info screen? It sounds like it could be the reverse switch, which usually threads into the side of the transmission. My 03 Tiburon had this issue and the reverse lights would actually stay on for a couple of miles after using reverse.
This is what I've come to believe in the 3 days since the original post. No, there is no inward or outward indication that the vehicle is in reverse, other than it actually moving in reverse. I too believe it's the reverse switch and have an appointment with the Hyundai dealership to look at it. The car is 2 years old with less than 20k miles. I'm assuming this will be a warranty item.

Unless a rat chewed the wiring it should be.
