Exhausted!!!

Hi: All... Is it rare to have the exhaust system almost fall off the GT? The entire weld at the rear axle where the pipe goes up to the muffler fell apart. Due to current "Pandemic" the nearest Hyundai dealer is shuttered. Not knowing if it would be warranty work I had my local Muffler shop repair it by putting a short sleeve on the pipe and re welding the system for 80 bucks CDN.

If it has the 2.0L NU. the US has a TSB out to fix it. I'm not sure if it applies since HMA and HMC are two different companies and they have their own warranties and regulations. Should be standard Emissions Warranty, because its a defect in the weld.

Hope this helps

Hi: RussianBear365... Thanks. My weld broke just in front of the rear muffler. I couldn't have made it 25 miles to the dealership. The whole pipe with the "Cat" was hanging down. Maybe if I send a copy of the invoice for the repair I can get reimbursed?

No, It has to be done by a Hyundai Dealer if you want it covered by Warranty. That's at least the same with all manufacturers in all countries. They did an awful job at describing where the weld break is. It is a the rear flange (the one that connects to the muffler) its not the center muffler that they are talking about. I've done about 4 here at my dealer, not with GTs, but with the regular Elantras.

Hi: RussianBear365... Thanks... That's where the Muffler Shop installed the sleeve. I can't see it, but I can't hear it either. Due to "Stay home stay safe" I've had nothing else to spend my money on. My wife just prefers it quiet!!!
