Hyundai has announced the pricing and powertrain details of the new 2018 Elantra GT and GT Sport hatchback models.

Starting at $20,235 including a destination charge of $885 is the Elantra GT. Based on the European Hyundai i30 and an alternative to small CUVs, the hatchback is one of the few out there that’s classified by the EPA as a Large Car, due to a very spacious cabin that has 120 cubic feet of total interior space. Around 25 cubic feet of that is dedicated to the cargo area without lowering the rear seats.

Aside from the extra space, the entry-level Elantra GT also come with a peppy naturally aspirated 2.0-liter I-4 engine delivering 161 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque, which is paired with a standard six-speed manual gearbox or an optional six-speed automatic transmission for $1,000 more. Features like a rearview camera, LED daytime running lights, 17-inch alloy wheels, and an 8-inch Display Audio infotainment system comes standard. Of course Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility is included as well.

One step up is the 201hp, 1.6-liter T-GDI four-cylinder powered GT Sport which starts at $24,135 and it offers up 195 lb-ft of torque. This model still comes standard with a six-speed manual or buyers can opt for the $1,100 seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Sport variant is also equipped with larger front and rear brakes and a set of 18-inch wheels wrapped shod in high-performance all-season tires.

Those who can’t wait to test drive the 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT can most likely find one sitting at your local dealership right now.

Has anyone seen what the option packages will add to the listed prices?

We probably won't see package prices and what they'll include until Hyundai releases more information or the build page goes up. Most of the time they just tell people the base price for each trim without anything included.

Now that we have pricing this has me wondering how much an N Sport version could cost. Maybe starting around $30,000? What do you guys think? At that price it seems like something that could rival cars like the Focus ST and Honda Civic Si.

Maybe if we Americans get over our aversion to hatchbacks in general. I would imagine an N hatch might cut to much into their Genesis plans as well. Time will tell I guess.

Too late for that now with everyone fearing how many SUV's are car based now and still want something SUV-like, its a culture that will take a long time to die out. Future generations won't care as much, scary thought for older drivers.
