Sweet ride SP. Just bought 1 today but couldn't convince my wife to get the blue like yours. So we both agreed on the summit gray. Will post some pics soon!

Did you test out any other hatches before deciding to go with the Elantra?

Keep us posted on how your initial months with it goes.
Thanks HG for the warm welcome. I narrowed the test drive finalists to 3 hatches - Elantra GT N, VW GTI, and the Civic Sport Touring. Biggest determining factor for me was price. Got mine with the tech package for $7800 below MSRP (combination of manufacturer rebate + dealer discount). Other factor was that here in Seattle, I noticed that the Civics were just everywhere! I hardly saw any Elantras on the road even with the 2018 model. So wanted to be different. With the GTI, its exterior looks just didn't do it for me the way Elantra did :)

Wow Dac you sure know pricing :) yup $21540 to be exact before tax & fees. Upon leaving, my salesman said "Man you really got a **** of a deal on this". I picked up the car the next day after walking out on the dealer with no deal and I can tell his sales manager was not happy. When I returned, he didn't even greet with me a "hey so great or nice to see you come back". My sales guy bypassed him and went to the GM to get the deal I wanted.

I've scheduled window tint and full frontal clear wrap in a couple of weeks. Once that's done, I'll post before & after pics. So sad part is I'm not driving it until that's done to avoid any rock chips :(

Wow.

Its great to see you did that comparing because I find its not done enough with most owners.
I went through a similar process as well, love the Civic, but not its overt styling. I've been a Honda guy for many years so i'm still on the fence.

GT N-Line in Black

I'm from Canada, eh! I got a GTN in Black, DCT about 2 months ago. Had the dealership tint the windows and do a paint protection spray before pick-up! 2 weeks after I got it, I had the rims powder-coated black; they look amazing!
Car runs so well, and has some nice get-up and go. Coming from a 3.8L Genesis Coupe with 350hp, I was scared of the downgrade in engine size. I'm definitely not disappointed!

Hey Kevin. Please post pics of your powder coated wheels. Been thinking of doing that as well. Maybe start a new thread on those pics as we've hijacked this thread enough from SP :)

I bet if you went back to that dealership you would find some people no longer working there. Your car was sold at a loss, I have zero doubts about. You really made out. Congrats

I tested out a 2019 GTI Rabbit. Beautiful car, and so much fun, but was about 3k more expensive and had less tech. Sometimes I kind of wish I had gone for the GTI, but I know if I did I would have regretted not having the sunroof and the Hyundai infotainment.

I also tested a couple Kona Ultimates, but they just weren't quite fun enough.

The N-Line has been great so far. It handles so well, especially with summer tires, and is very comfortable. I wish the interior were a little more premium, but for the money it is an amazing machine. I've taken it on one long trip so far, and have autocrossed it once. No major complaints. It could be quicker, but it's definitely quick enough to be fun.

Those look fantastic HK! Especially with the red calipers, it really gave your ride a mean look. Sorry but I'm gonna steal your idea and get mine done as well :) Although may have to wait a bit money wise. Window tint and full front film protection (entire hood, bumper, headlights, DRL, left and right quarter panel, side mirrors) are scheduled next week and will set me back $2200. May I ask how much the powder coating cost?

It's not cheap to get everything done! Wrapping essentially the entire front of your car, that's a big task! I'm not surprised it costs that much really, but it's great insurance that your car will always be safe. I had paint protection done at the dealer, and they also fix all dings and scratches for 5 years; that ran me $700 (I would say that's cheap for piece of mind). The powder coating and caliper paint cost me $500 (cash deal), and I had the tinting included with my vehicle purchase as a toss-in from the dealer. I also still have it on my list to tint the tail lights and black out my rear H emblem.

I already have a rock chip on my hood, so my next order of business is to get a clear bra on the car - not cheap but necessary.

Note that my costs are in CAD.

I am not sure I understand the logic in getting a clear bra for this car. After you drove it off the lot, it became worth about ~$20k. In 2 years, it'll be worth about $14k. You're spending 10-15% of the value of the car to keep rock chips off the hood? I am not sure I get that. Don't get me wrong, I like my GTS, and I keep it clean, washed, and waxed, but I accept that its a commodity commuter car and its going to get chips in the paint. Clear bras are meant for exotics and collector cars that have $15k paint jobs and spend life in garages, with the very occasional drive. Please save your money! $2k for keeping chips off of this car is kind of silly to me.
