The reverse camera on my 2020 N Line is extremely grainy at night - almost to the point of being useless. Is this an across the board issue or is mine defective?

It is what it is. a VGA/CMOS camera meant to assist in backing up. Nowhere near the DPI of the infotainment, and not even the resolution of a front-facing cell phone camera. And somewhat stretched on H/K's 8/10" displays. Double check your camera cover lens is clear and not scratched up? You can try installing LED reverse lamps to shed some more light. Not the best backup camera I've seen based on test drives the past couple years, but certainly not the worst.

I'm sure the '21 Elantra, and perhaps even the '20 Sonata, have higher resolution camera(s). Especially for the Sonata's Smart Park feature.

Otherwise, what is there to comment on? It's just how it is.

I was just trying to determine if mine was defective or not and whether or not to make a service appointment.

Coming from a 6 year old Nissan Juke that had a much superior backup view at night, I felt that there might be something amiss here on a 2020 Hyundai. BTW, my 2020 Camaro has better night backup vision than my N Line also, but it is not that great either.

However, thank you for your input.

Yeah the reverse camera isn't the best in low light and it's a composite video signal so it can only be so good. I did temporarily hooked up a Rydeen HD4 aftermarket camera just to see the difference and it had a little bit better picture quality at night and definition. If you did replace your oem camera with a aftermarket one you would loss the dynamics lines when turning.

The camera in my wife's Buick does the same at night. How do you like your N Line? I haven't seen any on the roads.
Overall, I am quite impressed with the car. As you can see from my posts on this thread and my signature, the N Line is my daily driver/grocery getter and as such it is wonderful. I have always desired a car with more than average acceleration and better than average road handling and the N Line fills this bill. It also has lots of nice features with the tech package, a really nice interior and it is very nice looking. All in all it is a far cry from my traded in Juke (which also was a great performer). But no comparison to my SS Camaro :)

Is the one you bought?

921 912 CANBUS Error Free White LED Reverse Back Up Light Bulb - Upgraded Version. SKU# T-T15 ($29.99 US)

Thanks

Yes it is.
Great, from that website under Trim level for the 2018 GT Sport it only shows "with Halogen Head lights" and I'm sure they are LED. Whatever. I think I'll go for it as the backup camera at night sure is a weak spot.

Thanks for the heads up. After reading your information I did a Google search on reverse lights for our cars and there are a lock of applications. Almost overwhelming actually. Being inherently cheap I found some LED bulbs for a very reasonable $9 for the pair. They are 1300 lumens per bulb which is a huge increase over the factory bulbs. And you can tell by the increased video quality of the back up camera.

I hope they work out well for you.
